Rebuild 10 bolt or MWC 9"
I've been racking my brain for over a year so I figured I'd get some outside input on my idea and see how stupid it is. Ok so here goes. First off my car will never see a drag strip it will likely never push more than 400 rwhp but it will have a 3600 stall eventually. Probably some Nitto Drs as well. Also worth noting I have enough $$ to do either option so let me know which option you think makes more sense for what I'm using the car for.
Option A-Rebuild the stock 10 bolt with upgraded axles, diff, gears and girdle. Worst case costing me $1500. I then spend the left over money on sfc's, headers, k-member, strano springs and new shocks.
Option B-Buy a brand spanking new MWC 9" fairly decked out. Roughly costing $3400. I have then spent most of the budget and will have to wait to probably another year to get the suspension parts.
Ok now go ahead and or whatever your feeling.

You will eventually blow the upgraded 10 bolt.
Go with the expensive option here.

Even upgraded you don't think it will handle 400 hp? I read an article a while ago (which started me second guessing the MWC 9 option) it said they could supposedly take 425 hp all day long.

Buy the 9". If you upgrade the 10 bolt, you'd better save the extra money to keep repairing it. Especially if you throw DRs on it. Traction and a 10 bolt don't mix - even when it's upgraded. I tried with mine and ended up tearing three sets of gears apart before I gave up and put a 9" in.

Alright that makes the decision easy then. Little disappointing that even upgraded they cant take that lil bit of hp. Stupid magazine aritcles giving me false hope lol. Thanks for all the helpful input guys. Hey Spaz what were you doin when you popped your rear. I assume from the pics your rear gear exploded?

There are people with stock 10 bolts running in the 10's. Some are on here. It's not the norm though.
These are stalled autos.

Lol that sucks it went just puttering around. I think im gonna have a local place make the driveshaft. Approximately how much longer does it need to be over stock? Which posi unit are you guys running? I was thinking just the billet one or is the truetrac worth the extra coin?

I have the TrueTrac. If you can swing the extra coin though, I would get the WaveTrac.

I would if I could but the wavetrac would put me way over budget. Have you had any issues with your truetrac?

No I haven't, but I am at relatively stock power still. I've seen some people have some issues with them. Keeping my fingers crossed as I'll be FI in a month putting down 500+rwhp/tq
The WaveTrac is about a $500 upgrade if ordered at the time of getting the 9" and comes with a lifetime warranty.
If you get the TrueTrac and then decide later you want the Wavetrac, the cost is a lot more, as you not only have to replace the center section, but the axles as well. WaveTrac is 35 spline where-as the TrueTrac is 31 spline.

I run the TrueTrac as well in the new 9". Ran one in the stock 10 bolt. Never had an issue with either one, and I'm around 450 hp/460 tq. Seems to hold up well until you start going north of 550 hp, or so I've heard.
