BREAKxNECKxSPEED and abelrob, did you get your bearings replaced and if so, did it solve the whine? The reason why I ask is that the whine is coming from the L rear on mine and it was fine until I installed new bearings. I'm fairly convinced that I must have damaged that bearing when installing it. Bearings are easily damaged when installing them.

I havent done anything except new royal purple gear oil and gm add. It still whined after the change but I drove it today and it has quited down alot. Maybe it just needed a little time? I am happy!!!

Well ....I tell ya what guys....I'm changing that bearing this week. I'll post back with the results. I can't even drive the thing at this point. Don't feel too bad for me I'm driving my `79 Firebird which is a heck of a lot faster than the TA.

The axle is bad. It doesn't have any engrovements but a few rough patches. I'll have it together this weekend.

I swapped out the axle and the bearings on the L side and the whine is as bad as before. It never whined until I swapped out the axle and bearings on the R side....and the bearing on the L side. I should have left it alone.

That sucks^ I hate it whaen you try to take good care of your car by doing jobs on it and it causes other issues. Seems like the people that dont do shit but change oil have the least problems.

Well I had the carrier bearings replaced and the whine is completely gone. It's really nice to hear nothing but those flowmasters back there now!!

talking about oil change: put new lube in 'bout 5k miles after the gear change and guess what: it's gotten noisier again! not really whining, but noticeable more noise. i used lakewood bfl racing gear lube. 80w90 for limited slip diffs (additive already in there, perfect mix).

... anybody ever noticed that fwd cars with transverse mounted engines don't have that problem? power doesn't have to go "around the corner"...

bye now, i have to go buy a honda!!!

They sold us a great car with a killer engine that just happens to have piston slap ( a very embarrassing loud knock ) and a really shitty rear end, cause the bean counters said no to a 12-bolt.
I wish I'd have found LS1.com before I sold my Stang!

My car has a slight whine too but its at all speeds and on decel its sounds like the whine is "skipping" like something touches then doesnt then does again. I have a stage 3 racing tranny and 3.73 gears in the rear. ( I bought the car this way) I was just wondering if this normal. i read all the posts and still cant make up my mind on whether its ok or not. I just bought new tires for it but with the old ones( they were basically slicks they were so bald) i got the one wheel peel but havent tested it lately. Is my rear going?

My pinion bearing also spun. I blew my rear end in the driveway with the clutch 1/3 out in reverse at 5% throttle. Typical GM quality. Anyways, I had it fixed and now have a slight whine from 45-55 and from 70-80mph. VERY slight. I have heard 7.5"s just whine no matter what a little bit.
