Okay, so the back lash gets out of spec when the bearings start to fail. The reason I was wanting to put bigger gears in was to increase strength. But for the budget-challenged, it's a matter of replacing the failing parts (bearings) and re-setting the back lash. Any suggestions on a good brand name for the bearings? Timken?
Also, is there any other reason why the back lash would be messed up (the rear end has never been apart)?
