    Rear end rebuild

Had to replace pinion bearings today due to noise from the rear of my WS6 TA with 75K miles on it. When it was torn apart and the axles removed, the axles were found to be scored from the wheel bearings.

Ended up having to replace both axles, both wheel bearings, pinion bearings, and carrier bearings.

I guess I know where my gov't tax rebate check is going.

I would upgrade instead of rebuilding the 10 bolt.

Total cost, including new rear axles and labor was $1,200. Each axle was $250 each. I dunno if it was the right thing to do or not, but I am trying to keep the car stock. Time will tell...

dude you could of found a used 12 bolt or 9" for 1,700-1,900 or buy a new one for 2,200 and never have to worry about this happenning again.

I don't have plans to ever take this car to strip or race it, so I am happy with the 10 bolt if it will just stand up to daily driving and not make noise.

I am now noticing noise in coast and decell after the rebuild, so I guess they didn't get the backlash set right, so it is going back.

If I had a lift and lots of spare money, I probably would just install a whole new rear end, but I guess I just thought I could get it repaired. I'm new to this car and still learning it's weaknesses. My 94 TA never had a single problem with the stock rear end, and was quiet through it's whole life (after putting in some additive for the limited slip).
