    Rear end question?

I was looking for a bumper on criags list today because mine is starting to crack when I came across a 85 z28 with a 99 trans am 10 bolt in it. My question is would a 9" from a 3rd gen fit in my 98 trans am without any modifications to the rear end or the car? Here is the link if some of you are skeptical. I was kinda shocked when I read it because I did not think they were the same or why someone would spend the money to put a 10 bolt swap in a car.

Could you not fit this all into one post Shady?

OP, the 3rd gen rear is more narrow. About 3" inches. (1.5" per side)

Wheel studs are usually 1/2" compared to 4Th Gen of 12mm x 1.25" metric studs.

There are also no ABS or TCS provisions. Swapping the LS1 brakes might be tricky as well. I would just hold out for A 4Th gen rearend, but its up to you.

I emailed the owner of the car and asked him if it would work in a 4th gen. This is what he said.

"Now going the other way isnt the best idea even if its a completely upgraded 9" unless it was made with 4th gen length or really really cheap
You wont be able to run your stock wheels, youd have to have thirdgen wheels or 2" spacers on each side which is really not safe with any kind of real power."
