Rear end locks up in winter when the wheels spin..
I have had this issue for a few years now, and nobody has been able to diagnos it. Atleast no tech near me. I had a jasper rear end put in under extended warranty years ago, and had this issue come up a couple years later. Took it to the shop, and they took "measurements" and everything seemed to be ok. I couldnt get it to duplicate the problem either. I didnt know EXACTLY when it did it though at the time either.
But, it happens in the winter time when the tires slips from snow/ice. When I go around a corner AFTER the rear tires spin, it seems like something is grabbing really hard, and the outside tire is almost locked to the inside tire. You can just feel it jumping when going around the corner. It doesnt do it though if you were to turn the opposite direction. I found the only way to break it loose was to floor it. I dont know what is going on, but figured I would ask here. Anybody have any suggestions as to what the heck is going on??? The car has 3:23's in it.

Oh, and it doesnt seem to do it when I spin the tires in the summer.
And for some reason this site is saying that I only have 15 posts. Dont know why that is. I have been on here for years, just havent posted much in the past couple years because I spend most of my time with the GN!

I had my TA with the 3.23 rear in MA and drove it in snow, rain, any weather and never had any issue. I have whatever posi th 98 w/3.23 package came with.
1998 Trans Am 85k miles.

You'll have to take the cover off and look. Maybe take some pix and post them up here.
Your symptoms sound like Gov-lock, which weren't installed from the factory in our cars. The Gov-lock was in some 3rd gens I believe. Sometimes those gov-locks lock up tight and it takes a little while for them to unlock.
