You have an auto or a manual, how much power do you make and intend on making?

The manual is pretty hard on the 10-bolts so you should probably go with an aftermarket rear end as mentioned.
Moser makes both, the 12-bolt and the 9".
Plenty of other companies offer rear ends as well. If you didn't know already, they cost more than 2 grand.

9" is stronger, almost unbreakable, but I believe it is heavier and has more rotational mass (lose a little HP)
12-bolt is supposedly not as strong as the 9" but I've never seen anyone break one personally either.
You can get these a lot of places, texas speed, or go straight to moser.
Midwest Chassis makes rear ends as well. Just do a google search cuz there are quite a few options out there.

Usually the autos go with the 12-bolt because they don't need a super strong rear and they have less rotational mass, so yea, that could be why they don't break as easily.

That and in an A4, you can preload the drivetrain for launches, which takes all the stress and backlash off the rear... as opposed to an M6 car where you pop the clutch and pop your rear end right out of the 10 bolt.
That's why they say M6 cars go with the 9" because it's a free floating carrier. At least this is what I remember while doing a little research for myself before buying my 9".

I have a Moser 12 bolt,i would STRONGLY recommend order whatever you decide to with straight from the manufacturer.another option is the Strange S60 which is quite strong.

Here's how it breaks down:
Strength:
Dana > 9" > 12 bolt
Weight:
Dana > 9" > 12 bolt
Efficiency:
12 bolt > 9" > Dana
Our car is an A4 that sees track duty. I went with a Moser 12 bolt, but in hindsight may have been happier with a Strange 12 bolt.
