Pinion seal question
My car is leaking from the pinion seal and I talked to a couple people on here that said they replaced theirs no issues. I have a messed up back so I have to get a shop to do my work. I asked the shop if they could replace the seal for me and the guy said it would do more harm then good. He said that the rear needed to be pre loaded to change the seal. Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks in advance.

Your going to want to cange the whole thing, all though I dont know how to just change the seal so I cant help you with that question, but in the long run replacing the old stuff now is going to be your best bet.

We just changed the seal on my son's 94Z. Marked the pinion nut and gear and counted the number of turns of the nut off and going back on. That was a lot of miles ago and a lot of high 12 low 13 second runs at the strip. No problems with leakage.

I dont understand why the mechanic I talked to said it needed pre load to change the seal. I guess I am gonna take it somewhere before I ruin the rear entirely from it leaking.
