A nice surprise for a change...
Finally got the time to swap out fluid in my 10-bolt. I'm pretty sure it has never been done.....fluid was nasty, real nasty. I've owned the car since 88k (now at 161k) and hadn't changed it yet, which I feel extremely stupid for, probably about as stupid as I feel for not buying SFC's yet (I'm guilty too Joshie ) But, to my surprise, everything else looked pretty fantastic. There was a very, very minimal amount of shavings on the magnet, and the pics below will show you the condition of the innards....
Took a 3M scratch pad on an angle grinder to the stubborn old remaining gasket, and left the surfaces looking nice and shiny for the new one. (love having access to my dad's impact tools )
BTW, just because I'm lazy, can't remember, and I'm lazy, can someone tell me which diff. has the yellow springs? Thanks.
Edit: Nevermind, it's Auburn.Last edited by Y2KArcticSS; 06-16-2009 at 11:55 AM.

Yes, I thought the same. Was kind of half hoping for one of those surprise "previous owner upgrades they forgot to tell you about" things, but I'm actually happier the dumb broad didn't touch it (If I only took pictures the day I bought it.......)
That's pretty much exactly what my dad said when he came out and looked.

Hahhaah. Mine is actually in good shape teeth, abs ring and spring wise. It doesnt make much racket except a whine from just beating on it. Its nice and tight and doesnt leak actually.
Glad to hear/see yours looks the same to a T.

I don't know what was in it to begin with, my guess would be the stuff from the factory I switched over to Amsoil severe gear 75w-110 and put in their brand limited slip additive as well, just in case.
Yep, mine whines just a tad every now and then on a slow 90* turn, that's about it. Maybe one day we'll get those SFC's too We should set up a donation thread
