    Unhappy newbie needs some help

hey there ladies and gents. well my problem started the other day when i was pulling out of a parking lot. i had my wheel turn all the way to the right and was drivning slowly. it felt like i had run something over so i pulled over to check. nothing was there. i went back into the parking lot and drove slowly in circles with the wheel turned all the way to the right. it felt like i was runing something over, over and over again without skipping a beat. i turned the wheel to the left and no noise or malfunction. the tires all look pretty well inflated though i didnt check pressure. i live in chicago and its starting to get cold now, i was debating storing or not to store but it looks like im gonna so i dont mess anything up any more. does any one know what kind of problem this is? easy fix? take to a shop? how much $? any info will help and i can try and describe it better if necessary.

Maybe a problem in the rear dif . Is it coming from the rear or front ? Maybe something with the limited slip . Mine is doing something similar to that and making a groaning noise . Im gonna check mine out when I do the 3:73 gears this weekend and put some GM limited slip lube in it .

If you think its the rearend you need to add a bottle of GM limited slip additive. Usually they make clunking sounds when they are going bad.

the zexel torsen rear end doesn't use limited slip lubricant...... Zexel Torsen (Worm Gear Driven) Differential Technology

    Pros: Cons:
    Never needs replacing once installed
No need for a limited-slip additive
Instantly transfers torque, no wheel spin
Is the latest technology in differentials
Can be fragile; 500ft/lb torque limit on OEM units
Generally more expensive than other differentials
    Expensive Upfront cost
Not available for all applications as of 2002

Most people on this forum won't suggest spending any coin on the stock rear end. If you plan on doing any major upgrades, people will tell you to upgrade to a 9" or 12 bolt. It all depends on your budget.

You can get a complete used 10 bolt, axles and all for around 250-450, depending on what shape it is in.

With that said, if your problem is say a bent axle and the shop wants to charge you $300 for repairing it...well then you can make the decision yourself which route to go.

If you have someone install it for you, you can spend around $2500 for a 9".

If you are staying stock for the most part, with street tires, I wouldn't recommend dropping that kind of money on a 9 or 12.

The 10 will be OK for your application.

Damn, that's close to where I work. Few years back we used to go to Bourbon Street all the time for lunch. I work right off 87th and the Dan Ryan.
