I have to say if I had the cash upfront the time would have been much shorter. But that is with everything in life that matters. Good things to those that wait.....at lease I hope....

Just waiting on my project mentor to get back in town. He's been on a job for the last 3 weeks.

I have to say that I know ppl have complained in the past about the customer service from Moser but they have been very helpful to me on this build. So far no complaints.

I have ordered a couple of items from Moser, called and emailed them a few times, and their response have always been prompt.

I looked at the bearings for the axle and they are sealed bearings pre greased. I know earlier in the thread we were talking about them and how sometimes they leak. Were the older bearings sealed like these or like most bearings?

I'll post a pic a little later is needed.

Our 12 bolt has sealed bearings and the axles seals are inboard of the bearings.

Usually how it's done is the inboard seal as Jeff mentioned, then you have a tapered sealed bearing packed with grease, (the race will actually pull apart after you run some miles on it, just like a typical front wheel bearing) Should be tapered bearings for the street for side loading. Then Strange will run another seal outside that bearing that acts like a cup around the bearing, and an inner seal portion that rides on the axle. Strange also includes a zerk fitting in the house between both seals so you can grease the bearing at regular intervals, making it serviceable.

I don't think Moser goes that extra mile on the outer seal and grease fitting. Could be why some of you see some seepage after a while.

    I haven't forgotten about this....

Hope to get back to work on this and finish it up soon, waiting on my mentor/welder to get some free time.

Anyways - I have one question in the mean time.

Anyone know what are the torque specs for the bolts that hold the ring gear to the differential?

From what I've read it calls for 77 ftlbs and Red Threadlocker, Main caps = 77 ftlbs.

Not a single page of Ford service literature in my entire automotive library. So here's a tech article from Car Craft on the 8.8 with specs: Install Gears and a Limited Slip in a Ford 8.8 - Car Craft

Sorta a bump update so this doesn't fail off the planet...

Dropped the bearings off to get pressed on to the diff and the pinon. I'll get them back on Mon/Tue the latest. Once I get them back I'll get the center chunk set up.

Axles will have to wait till I can pull the brake brackets off my current rear.

Well as of last Saturday everything has been on hold. My engine has a noise coing from it that I can't pinpoint yet. I thought it was a bent push rod or loose rocker but that is not the case. Trying to get it checked out.

I haven't abandon this build just have to shift priorities.

I know that feeling. I started out on an 8.8 build and had to put that on hold for a clutch install. It is still on the shelf because of work lately.

    Need some advice....

Any suggestions on what i can use to help prevent rust from building up while I'm working on finishing my other project? I have no room to keep in my garage and have the rear wrapped in a tarp but rust is still getting to it.

I was thinking about spraying some WD40 and wrapping it in plastic wrap.

I would say just spray it every now and then with WD40, wrapping it in plastic might pull in more moisture.

I would say wrapping it in plastic is trapping the moisture in. Stick it under an overhang should be fine. Dad always told me to smear vaseline onto any machined surfaces for long term storage.

Just like the military packs weapons in cosmoline... grease that thing up and you'll be fine. Just make sure it is bone dry when you do it.
