Is your rearend whine at all?
10-22-2010, 11:39 PM #22
Just hit 500 tonight so I'm going to change the fluid tomorrow.
No whine- I followed their break in proceedure (15 mins driving under 30mph, park for an hour, repeat four more times) no hard launches or drag racing for the first 500 miles. So far its smooth as silk. What gear did you go with- Richmond or Yukon? Richmonds are notoriously noisy.2000 Pontiac Firehawk #0041 of 742

I built my own 3rd member. A tad bit cheaper and did it with richmonds and they are a little noisey not bad. but a friend of mine has a MWC and he says his is loud as hell, Has a set of richmonds, we are going to pull it out and put in some yukons I think.

Okay- Here are a few pics of the new rear installed. It's a MidWest Chassis fabricated 9" (stock width, 4ch, fill tube, back brace, adj panhard and lca's, tunnel mounted torque arm with driveshaft loop, Posi with 4.11 gear.)
Had to modify the tunnel mount and DS loop brace in order to fit the LSXtreme y-pipe.
The LSXtreme Y is wedged in there. I'll have to do something soon to give the exhaust some flex.
Fill tube on the top right, and a nice shot of how clean the back brace is welded in. This thing is art.
Everything works together well- the UMI 3 points and the tunnel mount mate up perfectly.

Sadly enough one of my concerns was the powdercoat- the red componenets from MWC and the UMI being different color reds and looking off but they are perfectly spot on. It really was one of the easiest installs I've ever done- way easier than the clutch and the long tube & poly motor mounts, slightly easier than the rack and pinion and less painful than changing sparkplugs (except for when the ratchet broke loose and popped me in the mouth- seriously thought I'd knocked out a tooth...)
Now I just need to build my true duals and this thing will be golden! (That is except for the trans, shocks, interior, oh damn... anyone in the market for a kidney?)

bberretta, Did you cut off the brace that holds the ds loop and reweld it where you needed it? I started off with a true dual brace and then went back with the Y pipe brace but had to grind some to get the y not to bang on the cross brace. Looks very nice!

I ended up cutting out the leg that went straight down from the ds loop. There's only one brace on the loop but it's still quite sturdy.
Eventually I'm going to build a 2.5" true dual exhaust (with electric cutouts at the headers), but that's a whole 'nother project for after I finally pay off this rear. I gotta' do something soon, though. I'm afraid the rigidity ofthe exhaust is goingto break something. I have the pipes from the catted Y and I may replace the cats with stainless flex tube.
