    Are motive gears any good?

i was looking on the texas speed & performance website and saw this 'texas speed 10 bolt rear end package' :
Your choice of Motive Gears, Ratech Complete Gear Installation Kit, 2 Quarts of Redline or Royal Purple Synthetic Gear Fluid,1 Bottle GM Limited Slip Differential Additive, TA Performance Aluminum Rearend Cover with Stud Kit

i was going to go with 3:73's for a m6 car and i have heard that motive gears whine alot. for $400 this sounds like one hell of a deal. but some people tell me these gears arent that good and they start whining after beak in. is this b/s?

I've heard several times that the Motive and SLP gears are best aftermarket to go with due to the way they are cut similar to the GM gears and they will make no noise - I personally didn't have any luck with either as far as noise goes when switching from 3:23 to 3:73's.

Once I finally put in the GM gears - no noise. Rear end was set up by same very reputable shop every time.

I can put up with quite a few extra noises due to the addition of aftermarket parts - but gear whine is definitely NOT one of them...

All I can say is that with all other things being equal, the GM gears were the only type that didn't give me any gear whine when set up. The cost was around $170 for the GM set so they weren't out of line with the pricing of other gears.

So if I was ever to do it again - I would only use GM gears.

Well from what I've heard, the Motive and SLP gear teeth are supposedly CUT the same way as the GM gears - which, along with how they are set-up, has a lot to do with gear noise. I never heard that either were made by the same mfg. as GM gears?

My motives are silent, and I'm happy with them. The Richmonds whined something awful.
