If you ever experienced rear gear noise come in

K so my stock 10 bolt went out and i got 2 picked out to replace it with but ik dont know which one i should pick b/c ive never heard what a rear end whine noise sounds like i say this bc the first rear end is local $300 stock 10 bolt but has Eaton HD posi in it but he says it makes some gear noise was tolerable to him b/c he drove it for three yrs. The other rear is $460 shipped tested and tuned to 90mph with no noise. Which would you'all pick or how tolerable is a rear end whine? This is going on a DD. Thx

Find a reputable shop and rebuild yours....

Why buy someones used stuff.... and find out they can live with a rear that sounds like maryanns voice from the howard stern show...

Buying used is really a core waiting to be rebuilt.....

Labor can run 250 to 350 , parts, depending what you need..
Could just be the labor and another 100 for all the bearings, or bearings and whatever else might be wrong, maybe just spiders or R&P...

Only thing that should be going into that 10 bolt is gear oil. No point in dropping money in it if it's just going to blow again.

    Just my opinion

Removing the rear from the car, doing it in car is a bitch. Ask what a rebuilt one costs doesn't hurt. I wouldn't buy a rear w/ whine in it that to me means backlash is whacked and or the rear was never broken in properly.

    Sadly now demodded :(

As you have an M6 I'd highly reccomend going with a 12 bolt upgrade at the least. Any sort of high RPM clutch dump with the 10 bolt and you're on borrowed time.

I have an A4 and I've been thru 3 rearends and 4 gear sets. I drag race my car quite a bit (the 02 is a toy). I should have listened to what everybody else said and just bought a 12 bolt cuz I've spent more than that in gears/repairs/housings.
    67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...

2005 Corvette LS2/M6 Magnetic Red Metallic (What else would it be?) w/ Cashmere interior

    2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73). Tuned: 343rwhp/357rwt (before TD's). Best: 12.559 @ 108+, 1.73 60' @ 3500' DA w/MT ET Street DR's.

This last time I fried the pinion bearing onto a new pinion. Now I have a set of used 3.23's. At least it runs quiet. The last set (AAM 3.73's) started howling like a whore that was refused payment.

But with shity street tires they'll jus break loose relieving the stress of my 10 bolt right? at least for a yr or two until i can get a MWC fab 9"
