    HWY gears?

OK so my question is this. I have a Procharges Ls1 and i just put a Moser 12 bolt in but am having a hard time picking the right gears. I will be driving a few HWY miles in the near future and want something that will take good launch but still bable to sustain 70MPH for a few hundred miles. Has anyone had any luck with a select gear ratio?

With an overdrive it's really not a concern. Most people will tell you a 4.10 with the 6 speed is the preferred choice. That's what I run in my wifes 6 speed and she drives 200 miles a day, very highway friendly with the .50 overdrive. She cruises between 75-80 (limit 75 here).

With an auto overdrive the 3.73's will be what most people like around here.

I run 3.73's in a couple cars without any overdrive and find them very highway friendly, goes 65mph at 2800 rpms with a 28" tire. I've criss crossed the country like that several times logging several thousand miles, doesn't bother me. Have a car here with 4.88's and no overdrive, I go on the highway for short spurts of 20 miles or so but I have to buzz it at 4,000 or better, so I'm used to it.

What I'm saying is that gears and highway friendly is really a relative term that's a difference of opinion for different people. Today most people have gotten soft with their cushy overdrives. In the end it's really up to you and what you want. Check out Vexer.com gear calculator and play with different ratios and see what you are happy with.

I like my 3.42s. I like cruising below 2000 even at 80mph... though I'm sure the extra punch from 3.73 or 4.10s would be a blast... I'm just not sure I want to ride at ~2500 rpm on my 45-mile commute everyday. If I buy a beater sometime soon, I might wind up going with 3.73s, just to make the car more fun... but as my daily, I love the 3.42s. If I could have it my way, I'd actually get something a little shorter like 3.73s or 4.10s and swap out the 5th and 6th gears in my transmissions to be .70 and .47 or so, to make up the difference. But that's more trouble than it's worth. So 3.42s for me.

Auto with 3.73's stuffed in a Moser 12 bolt here. Not at all a problem on the highway.

The ratio of the t56 already has a .74 5th and .5 6th gear. Even with 4.10s you're still only turning 2100 at 80. I went with 3.90's in my m6 and instead of turning 1750 at 80 with 3.42's I now turn 1950 at 80. So dont be afraid of a gear swap as its a great SOTP mod. And being your rear is whining its a good time to do it lol.

And to the op I agree with what everyone else says if your an auto 3.42's or 3.73's are a great choice if you do more hwy than city go 3.42 if not then do 3.73. If you have an m6 I prefer 3.90's over 4.10s as first gear is a little more useable but thats just me.

If I were you, I wouldn't get a 4.11 gear or any really low gear like that. I have a Procharger and a 4.11 gear and 1st gear is useless and you literally have to shift after only a few seconds in each gear (I'm a M6). I would pick something higher than a 4.11 like a 3.23 so you can make better use of the Procharger power.

That's true also, the motors set up will dictate a lot of what gear to use, just don't cruise in 6th with a small gear and keep the motor at dead rpms, that isn't the efficient area of most gas motors
