    Sadly now demodded :(

If your 2000 SS 6-speed has the original rearend it was born with then you've definitely got a 3 series carrier/posi. Regular 3.73 gears will work with it. If not then it's anybodies guess.

Even then they make 3 series gears that work with a 2 series posi. Can't mix and match though.

    Question.
With the 3.73s do I have to change the differential cover?
Or the stock one still fit fine ?
    Thanks

Have you read any of the past threads about people rebuilding there diffs? The shafts are going to need to be replaced or bearing relocation kits need to be used since there are no races for our shafts. There is a thread in the diff section with pictures you should look up.

2000 SS 6speed came from GM with 3.42s',3 series 'Torsen' carrier.
Since it's an SS,it went to SLP after leaving the GM plant where it was converted from the factory Z28 to a SS. Many things/mods COULD have been at SLP,such as different gearing(3.73 or 4.10),'Torsen' carrier replaced by an 'Auburn' or 'Eaton'.

Assuming(sometimes it's wrong/bad to assume) the rearend is still as it left GM,the consensus for changing gearing is for 6 speed to go to 4.10s' in which case a 'Torsen' modified 'paddle' is required. 3.73s' do not require the use of a modified paddle.
When the rearend is apart for the gear change, inspection of the parts will determine what can be kept in service and what needs to be replaced.
Since the axles will be out, their bearing surfaces can be checked for wear.
A bearing relocation 'kit' causes difficulty in re-inserting the c-clips and if successful, future work on the rearend becomes 'impossible' as forced-in c-clips are impossible to remove. If axle(s) are worn beyond serviceability,find/buy good used axles.
You didn't state if the vehicle is 3 channel ABS or 4 channel ABS+Traction Control. Different axles for each series.

Also, changing gears from whatever you have to something else requires computer internal change to correct speedo.

Jack the rear end up to get the rear wheels off the ground. Turn the wheel (1) full revolution and count the number of times your drive shaft turns. You will probably need to mark the drive shaft with a marker or something so you can keep track of the number of times it turns.

If it turns 3.5 times, you probably have a 3.42 gear.
If it turns almost 4 times, you have a 3.73 gear.
    Etc
    Etc

if you have the 6 speed you should just do the 4.10 gears. going from a stock 3.42 to 3.73 will be almost a waste of money

I would have to say go 3.90 or 4.10. I drove my friends with 4.10's and I love it, plan on getting some when I pick up a 6spd car. Right now I have 3.73's in my A4 up from 3.23 factory. Also I would pickup the deluxe install kit since your taking the gears out may as well replace the worn partys.

    A 3.90 is a great gear,but I'm almost positive nobody makes a 3.90 for a 7.5 10 bolt as I've only seen that gear offered in 12 bolts
