    Dumb Bearing Question....

I'm going to be putting new axle bearings in soon, and I wanna check something. The axle bearings ride in a bath of gear oil....but do I need to pre-oil them or anything to that affect or are they pretty much just plug and play?

    thanks

It's best to prelube, when you refill to proper level after assembly, the gear lube will flow into axle tubes to provide a continuous oil bath.

Make sure to check the axle where the bearing and seal rides for any imperfections. I also put a thin smear of grease on the axle at the seal area so the seal does not run against a dry axle. Don't knick the seal lip with the axle splines when reinstalling the axles.

Thanks, gents. I'll make sure to "lube up my axle." LOL...and I"m already planning to change the left rear axle...it's screwed, I haven't looked at the right rear yet, but if it's screwed too..well, I"ve got two replacements in the garage just waiting to go in.
