driving 3000 miles on 3.73s with gear whine on deceleration

Would this be safe? I'd be driving from Colorado to California. Car doesn't whine during acceleration, only on deceleration. they are Motiv's with a few thousand miles on them. I've heard aftermarket gears are normal to whine over OEM gears, but i'm still skeptical. Any information on this would be great.

Were the gears professionally installed? If yes, check with the installer, if no, your back lash may be off. I would also contact the company that sold you the gears and ask them also..Good luck..

they were done at a shop, not so sure if the guy was "professional". I'll call motive tomorrow. and you're not supposed to change the backlash after the gears have been drivin on, correct?

Gears are not supposed to be noisy. Either the pre-load is wrong, the backlash is wrong, or the pinion depth is wrong. There's a lot to setting up a rear end properly. If the mechanic didn't have experience doing one, he/she very well could have set something up improperly; wrong tolerances.

Once the gears are installed and the contact pattern is set between the ring gear and pinion, there's nothing you can do about it. You'll have to live with the noise or install new gears.
Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

Round trip and a little excess, i over estimate for trips. It's only 2600 necessary miles.

That's what i thought. I was curious if i should buy a used rear (complete, 3.42s, $300) or if my gears would be safe with them whining.
