    Differential Fluid change

Well im planning on doing my differential fluid soon so i wanted to see if anyone had any tips.

I dont know what the guy before me put in it but im planning on putting 2 quarts 75w-90 mobil-1 gear lubricant. Is that a good lube too put in the diff?

this will be my first time doing this with the diff but ive been reading up on it and watching some stuff online and it seems simple enough.
Anything else i should put in? or something i should know about?

    Thanks!!!

I just changed mine too. IMO, Royal Purple 75-90 is the way to go! I change mine once a year, at the beginning of the year. With the Royal Purple, you don't need to put in the posi-trac additive that the manual says to. LIGHTNINGMCQUEEN & DOCJHH45, if you two want any additional tips or tricks to make things go smoother, just send me a message or a reply.

I have a 00 Trans Am M6 with 100k miles. So for this fluid change should I get Royal Purple 75w-90 and a new gasket? And does this sound sufficient? Also there is no need for any additives?

I never thought the 10bolt was even worth a fluid change.

I'd just keep it topped off. About the time you give it attention is when it'll break.

I thought it would be better to change all the old stuff out and in with the new instead of mixing new with old. But im not an expert on this stuff

The stock rear is worth a fluid change...you should keep up the maintenance on any differential, regardless if it's stock or aftermarket...

I use Royal Purple differential fluid personally and highly recommend it for you too. By maintaining the differential, you're going to prolong the life of the rear. Also, when you take the cover off, you'll have the opportunity to make sure none of the gear teeth are chipped. If you're using a high quality synthetic like Royal Purple, you won't need to add the GM posi-trac additive as you would normally have to.

Autozone only carries Royal Purple engine oil; for some reason, they don't carry other RP fluids (like differential & tranny fluid). They do have the gasket for the 10 Bolt-the brand is Felpro. I believe the part number for the Felpro gasket is RDS 55072, but they can tell you for sure at the store. As far as the oil, I get mine online. If you're hard up finding the Royal Purple, I always have extra quarts on hand that I could sell to ya.
