This clunk is making my brain clunk....

I went to the track a few weeks ago and on the second run i noticed i have this clunk when i make sharp left hand turns when i got back into the pits. Finally got a chance to mess with it today, unfortunately it was raining out so it wasn't very comfortable.

I opened the axle up. Didn't see any chunks missing out of the ring gear, pinion, worm gears or anything. Double checked that every bolt was tight and nothing seemed out of place. When i took the cover off, the magnet had some shavings on it but nothing to give away any sort of catastrophic failure just usual wear and tear.

Changed the fluid to see if that helped, read that in some other threads while searching. The fluid change helped but didn't take it away completely but it is noticeably better. Should i add some more lsd additive and see what that does?

I don't know. Any suggestions would help. I'd love to go with a 9" but the bank account says f-off to that one right now.

    Thanks,

    Rob

A loud clunk when only turning left? Possibly a strut mount?

Correct. I thought about the u joint but i figured it would be doing it more than just when i turn left. Checked the t/a mount and it looks fine and the panhard rod is also tight.

The one thing i think i noticed was that the t/a looked like it had a gentle curve towards the drivers side. I tried comparing to some pics online but couldn't find a decent one. Im assuming they should be straight but who knows with crap stamped steel.

This is not a normal sound clunk, although its better than it was before i changed the fluid.

I don't think these have a strut mount in the rear as they are shocks, just the upper mount which i don't even know what it looks like because i never have looked up there. Is there some sort of mount that wears as in a strut system? Never really thought of checking it as it rides fine and makes no clunk or rattle when i hit bumps.

    Thanks guys,

    Rob

I think I remember mine looking like that too, so you're probably ok there.
