Changing Gear Ratio in a 9"

I know the Third Member can be changed out (no brainer)...I was just wondering if the gears themselves could be changed while keeping the Third Member you paid $1k for.

I was wondering because I found a cheap 9" for sale, but it has 3.42s and I want 4.10s, but I don't want to have to buy a new Third Member to accomplish this.

The ring and pinion themselves can be easily removed from the 3rd member, so I don't see why there would be any issues with swapping to a different gear ratio set.

That is one of the nice things about 9 inchers,,,they didn't have series specific carriers for different ratios. Unlike GM that had 2-3-4 series carries for certain gear sets,,,ie: 3 series for a 3.42 or 3.73,,,,,4 series for a 4.10 or 4.56 etc.....
You can stick any gear you like in a 9 inch without worries.

I should have a set of 3.42 ring gears next week. I was just planning on taking the whole rear end to the junk yard, but if you want the gears then I would be happy to send them to you for a steal. Of course this depends on how they look when I take them out, should be fine since they are quiet.

thats one of the main reasons to buy a 9". easy gear changes. I have had many over the years. They are bullitproof and easy maintenance.
