Exclamation Change Carrier or Use "thick" gears

I'm getting mixed awnsers on doing my gear swap and just keeping my 2 series carrier (with 2.73 gears) and using thick gears (3.73) with the spacer. Some guys say I need to replace it with a 3 series carrier to do it right.

I am making the same swap.I dont see the need to spend even more money to rebuild a 7.5" rear.buy a thick gear and be done with it.If you are going to swap carriers too then just spring for a real rear like a 9" or a 12 bolt.JMHO

I went with the 3.73 gears for the 2 series carrier and it works fine. Only problem is these particular gears are whiny. Go for it.
