broke the driveshaft
I was accelerating onto the intestate and as soon as my car shifted into 4th at about 120ish I heard a loud bang underneath the car. I looked in the mirror and saw a ton of smoke, and i heard the driveshaft sliding on the ground. I pulled over and looked underneath to see the front of the driveshaft resting on the ground and the other end still connected. The bearing joint (I think thats what its called) came off as well. And ideas of what collateral damage could have also happened?

Did you just break the u-joint or did you break the driveshaft? Some pics would help.

it could bounce around and dent up your panels, it could also cut brake and fuel lines.

When you break the ds on a launch sometimes it will grenade the rear but doubtful in your case.

i know for sure that part of the transmission broke off and the u joint gave. i got an estimate from our good friend who was a GM mechanic for 33 years and he said he could get all the parts and labor for around $400. we are going to yank the tranny out and tear it apart to make sure nothing is damaged inside, and if its still in tact then ill keep it and have it rebuilt. also hoping the gears are good still.

My trans R&R was only $200.
Keep us posted and hopefully nothing too major. Get a DS safety loop while you're replacing the DS.

Oh, and not sure what DS you are going with, but I have the stock OEM AL one from my SS. It has about 10,000 miles on it.
I swapped it out for a Precision Shaft Technology DS during my tranny/rear overhaul.Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.
