    Size: 12-bolt = 8.875" diameter ring gear; 9" = 9" ring gear.

    IIRC, the 9" has a bigger pinion bearing diameter.

    12 bolt....the 9" is not stronger, except for it's amount of pin to gear contact...

    The pin is to low on the ring, making more drag and leverage on the ring to twist it, along with the pin bearings being to close together.... (THE reason it NEEDS the third bearing) Something no one talks about...

    Ever seen a 12 bolt shoot a pinion gear out and take the driveshaft with it ?

    How many times have you seen a 9" shoot the pinion gear out and take the driveshaft with it ?
