all needed to change to 3.73 gears

I have an automatic transmission with a 2.73 gearing. what all is needed to change to a 3.73. I bought this off of texas speed

I got it with 3.73 gears. is there anything else that I would need to get to change it over to 3.73. if so I will go ahead and order it tonight when I make an order on summit for something else.

just make sure your carrier is the right series, i believe it is 2 or 3 series

those gears should be for a 3 series i believe
texas speed should be able to help you out with a positive answer

You need a thick gear set for a series 2 carrier. You might better call Jon at TSP and make sure thats what you are getting because if not you will have to buy a series 3 carrier to make it work. Jegs sells a thick gear that is made to work with your series 2 carrier. It will also last longer because the gears are stronger.

I ordered a modified eaton lsd (3 series) to use. I read up on it before I bought it. it was 610 dollars and build to handle 475hp. from what I read it would be strong enough to stand up to the beating I will put on it.

That kit looks like pretty much everything you'll need.

Do you plan on doing it yourself? If so, I'd recommend some loctite & RTV.

I was going to if all I was doing was the gears, but I needed the differential so I am taking it somewhere.

I think you're making the right decision by taking it to a shop, but it would be the same amount of work whether you're just swapping gears or replacing a differential too. The ring bolts to the differential, so you'd have to take it out anyway. However, the job is a huge pain in the ass if you've never done it before, and a couple specialized tools are needed. Just make sure the place you take it to specializes in drivetrains/rear ends. It's pretty precise work, so there's something to be said about getting a quality job done.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the Ratech install kit they include. Here's a part list: pinion shims, carrier shims, crush sleeve, pinion seal, pinion nut, ring gear bolts, cover gasket, and pinion, carrier bearings.

wow that's alot of stuff it comes with. I was wondering too but have been too busy to check. I have never done it before, but if it weren't all new stuff going in it I wouldn't feel weird trying it.
