ABS INOP and ASR OFF light on dash after new 9"

    Hey all,

I just purchased a Moser 9" and had it installed on my 2002 Camaro SS. Everything seemed to be fine until yesterday while on the e-way, the ABS INOP and ASR OFF light came on. I know the ASR OFF came on b/c this is not functional while ABS is inoperable. Anyone else have this issue with a Moser install? I had the code pulled from a Chevy dealership by me. The service guy told me the read out was "right rear wheel - range performance". I really don't think the sensor is bad. I crawled under there and all connections and wires looked new still. I only have 13K miles on the car. I did purchase the ABS/TCS 4-channel option on the Moser. Any help or advice is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys!!!

Well it most likely the sensor or the wiring. It could also be an incorrect clearance between the sensor and the reluctor ring. If the sensor are the same you could try swapping side to side to see if the problem follows the sensor over there.

My vote is sensor, if it got dropped or banged during install of 9". Or it could be that it isn't mounted properly/tightened in place or possibly dirty, take it out and look for anything obvious. Were the brakes taken completely off, if so were they bled good? Make sure everything is tight on the right side. And make sure the wires didn't get damaged during install.

    Im with these guys.

When I took my rear end apart and cleaned it with carb cleaner and got all the gunk out it took a good two miles for mine to go off...

I didnt even touch any sensors

Let's assume it is the spacing between the reluctor ring and the sensor. Is this something that can easily be adjusted? I'll have to crawl back under there and look again, but I thought maybe there should be a thread adjustment. At least from what I remember on another vehicle and different rear. The car saw about 600 miles on the new rear before the lights triggered. Then after I pulled over, shut it down, the lights went off for about 5 miles, then went back on again and have been on since.

I left a message with him on Saturday Hi-Po. Brent was going to call me to talk about it on Friday, but I didn't hear from him. He was doing DYNO testing so it's understandable. I am sure Bob will get me squared away. BTW, the code is "C0050 right rear range/performance".

As stated in chat, take out the sensor and switch sides(if possible) and see if the code moves(if possible to get another free scan).

If the code stays off, well you have a winner and if the code moves you know its the sensor and not the ring

I don't mind not having it either, but the bottom line is I paid $175 for the TCS/ABS option. Haha...tape it...oh Hi...

I seen you posted your #'s....nice. I'm guessing you like everything pretty well.

Oh yea, if you paid for it.... then damn right it should work. I agree. And yes, it runs good. But the tuning needs some more work. Long story. But yea, I like it.

New sensor on the way from Bob (Have I mentioned he is the MAN). Hopefully that is the problem.

If the problem persists, get some small washers the same diameter of the screws/bolts holding the sensor to act as a "shim/spacer" for the sensor. I did that and it works like a charm.

Thanks Cammed. Joshie just told me the same thing. I did change out the sensor and 20 feet later after clearing the codes, it triggered again. Just tonight I drove the car with a scanner running diagnostics on the wheel speed sensors...all of the them read the correct MPH except the RR read 0, so I know the problem is there. I am going to check the male prongs on the connection to make sure there is good contact and then I'll try the spacer idea.

If that doesn't work, it may very well be a wire. I will probably make a trip if this last two "simple" fixes don't do the trick. Slowly but surely I'll get it.

Now it sounds like something may be a defect in manufacturing....
