    A4 gearing question?

I have the 2.73 gears in my A4 2002 Z and the car rocks but seems to take forever to rap out when its pulling through the gears, it has a 3400 stall with a 2.2 STR and a cam and header back exhaust, no doubt that the car just freaking moves but would it even be beinificial to upgrade to either a 3.42 or a 3.73 gear or do you think that will hurt my performance? It is daily drivin and used at the strip as well so any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Sure she makes some decent power.

    That cam is wanting gears.
Depends on what you want to do with it and if mileage matters.
I would recommend 3.73, but you will feel a decent difference with even the 3.42.

well i dont mind the whole mileage thing since its 5 min to work and with the bad weather coming I wont be driving it that much so I guess ill look into some 3.73s for my series 2 carrier thanks curtis!

gears will also be easier on your tranny, less stress on clutches

just think of it as riddin a mountain bike, are you gonna accelerate faster in 5th or 3rd, and think how much eisier it will be on you legs

if you are adding nitrous to the mix, get no higher than 3.73. i had 4.10 in my black car. on the bottle, i would have to shift into OD about 70 feet before the traps. with the 3.73 gears, i now go through the traps in drive (3rd) at about 6100 rpms.

If you are going to keep the #2 carrier then make sure you get the "thick" gearset. DONT get the spacer, it sucks and will be a biotch to get right.

How is that cam as a daily driver? Seems a bit radical for daily use.

It actually isnt half bad it does surge but with a little more tuning that will be fixed, as far as power with the cam and 3400 stall the car is a freak and I love it!
