    6spd issue

I just developed an issue with my tranny. As I was coming home from work, I attempted to shift from 3rd to 4th, and my clutch was to the floor. I pulled it back with my foot, and again it went to the floor. I continued home and shifted without using clutch. When i got home, I shut her down and pushed the clutch in, and kept hearing what sounds to be like metal bending/popping under the car. Is this going to be a linkage issue, and if so, how screwed am I?

    thanks!

There is no linkage. Hydraulic hose runs down to tranny and hooks to throw out bearing/slave cylinder. Sounds like it went out if you hear noise.

Thats what I just figured out, after getting it up in the air. How difficult is it to replace the slave cylinder?

What I also found (mind you, the original tranny was an A4, and the M6 was transplanted into it), the bracket that is behind the clutch pedal, and where the slave cylinder is, looks like it has alot of play and is pushing away from the firewall about 1/4" when I depress the clutch now.

Any and all help/info is GREATLY appreciated!

It is not hard. Just have to drop trans and there are 3 small bolts that hold it on. I would check your hose and make sure it is connected fully and check before dropping trans and you will need to fix the issue with actuator pushing away from firewall before driving again. That can be why clutch is not engaging also. But doesn't explain noise.

Thanks for the info! It looks like someone used a metal adjustable strap (like a heater hose strap/clamp) to hold the actuator to another part so it would not move. I can't even see where the bolts should line up to the firewall for the plate to be secured. Looks like I will have an interesting week/weekend figuring this plate issue out!

Well, if I am going to have to tear anything apart, I am probably going to just replace the Slave cylinder, and the clutch master cylinder at the same time. I know I will be spending the money to get the tranny rebuilt, and a new clutch by the end of the year, or by next spring, but need to baby it until I have the cash flow for all the tranny work. Hoping this will take care of atleast getting her back on the road and drivable for alittle longer.

So it gets better. The problem is the mounting bracket is broken, and the person before me used a heater hose strap to put tension on the actuator and broken bracket. The noise I heard was the 2 pieces of broken bracket moving.

Atleast you don't have to drop tranny. Should be able to pick one up for the price of throwout and slave and mount correctly.

Not sure if I have been looking under the wrong part name, or what, but does anyone know the part number, or actual part name for the bracket that attaches the clutch pedal/actuator to the firewall? I need to find a new one, or a used one to replace mine that cracked and broke.

    It is for a 1999 Z28 M6.

    Thanks!

Not to mention, this type of part is going to be dealer only anyway, so you'll more than likely have to bite the bullet and order it, then cross your fingers it's not discontinued yet.

Otherwise it's "hunt the junkyard" time and hope you can find a manual trans 4th gen sitting around.
