    6-speed conversion

I have a 98 Ls1 automatic, and I was curious if anyone has converted and automatic to stick and how much trouble it was. I had an 89 6cyl auto, and dropped in a 350 with a 5 speed and it was easy, but didnt know if the newer style would pose more problems.

You would need a new computer also, it's not worth it. Just sell it and buy an stick, lol.

Mind me asking exactly why you want to swap in the 6 speed?

It can be a pain in the ass. Personally...get a shift kit and stall on the auto and enjoy.

What are you talking about? Bad information.

You will not need a 'new' computer OP, Just a simple flash of a 6 speed car on your exisiting ECM. 5 minute deal.

Keep the auto though. Get a tune, a gear, stall and I bet you will be happy with it.

you're going to spend probably 4-5k to have it done... i'd jsut buy another LS1 with a 6 speed or modify the one you have now... i higher stall, a shift kit, and 3.73 rear gears would start your car along the path to becoming a monster...

yeah also with an auto--->6 speed swap, you'd almost have to change the rear gears just to get an advantage out of the different trannys, unless you just like haveing a shifter to play with

Lol, everyone has personal preferences. Not everyone wants a track monster. I had a stalled auto formula nad a m6 T/A, both were mid ot high 12 cars the stalled auto was .3 faster than the best time in my m6 but i would take the m6 in a heartbeat.

i know but people get unfairly ridiculed for opting for an automatic, it is absolutly all preference,

Did mine (and a few in the past) and have gone both ways; keep your head out of the gutter, I'm talking transmissions ... lol

You don't need a PCM, you just need to have it reflashed with a M6 tune. There's a few wiring related things you need to take care of; to get reverse lights, clutch pedal safety switch/etc. installed and working, but it's easy and doable even at home. PM me if you really get to doing this and I can guide you through it if you need help.

BTW, I prefer the manual but I'd drive an auto and have no issues with it. Drove my Camaro with the Auto for 6yrs before I swapped the LS1 and a Manual in it and frankly miss it sometimes when I have to deal with traffic

Reason is my auto is giving me problems, doesnt shift at WOT, hits the rev limiter. Was weighing my options between fixing up the auto or going 6 speed. Already have the stick rear in it.
