    4L60E RWD into 4WD

I've searched and cannot find much info on this so please don't pounce on me if this is a frequently covered topic. I'm throwing an LS1 into my '67 Bronco and most of the engines I can find come with the transmission already mated to them. Can the 4L60E RWD tranny be easily converted to mate with a transfer case? Can you just remove the tail housing or something?

Yes, I can't remember if the output shaft has to be changed or not. I'm thinking no,,,it's been a while since I did this.

I did this swap in my wifes jeep a couple years ago. There is an adapter made so the 4L60E will bolt to a transfer case. Or a tailhousing from a full size chevrolet/GMC 4X4 works I believe,,,and the adapter I used bolted the tranny right up to a Dana 300 transfer case and changed the speedo readings to work with a mechanical speedo and everything all in one shot. Works real nice.

I believe the name of the company I got mine from was Advance Adapters. I would have to do some digging in my paperwork to be sure.

Advanced Adapters makes some sweet kits, thanks for the info. I might try to sell the RWD 4L60E and buy a 4L60E and transfer case already mated...

That would be a good way to go,,,then all you would need would be the speedo adapter for the analog gauage and your set.

Are you referring to the VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor?
