Red face 3.73 install... can I do it?

... so I'm thinking of doing my own 3.73 install on my 2000WS6 A4. And I'm looking for anyone to chime in if I'm crazy or not.

I'm mechanical and have done my own cam install, valves, & torque converter. I do basically all my own car repairs. However, I don't have air tools (but I can borrow).

I thinking of swapping to 3.73s and think I can take the pressing parts of the job to a local shop and I'd do the rest. I'm trying to save money, have fun working on the car and keep other people's hands off my car.

    Whatcha think?

Uhmmm... Might want to get a buddy that has set up gears before... It is easy to just swap them out, but, you should have them set up and shimmed for the right wear patterns, ect... If you got the master rebuild kit yet, you will notice all the extra shims.
Then Again, the stock ten bolt will break either way !!! LOL !!!

I say do not do it. I was in the same position few years back when i was putting 4.10's in my car. I decided to wait and watch/help my friend do his first then do mine. Boy am i happy i did that, i wooda def screwed up if i did it myself. Ask some1 that knows what there doing to help you, becasue the last thing u want is to be driving and something breaks/snaps. While were on the subject, what diff fluid is every1 using?

Thanks guys, I'm going to read through the couple install guides out there. I'm still considering it. You only learn by trying yourself.

I've been to the track a couple times (12.53 best 1/4) but don't think I'll do that much anyone.

As for fluid in the rear, I've always used Mobil Synthetic 75w90? and add a limited slip additive.
