Post 3:23 to 3:73 Gear Install: How hard is it?

I'm pretty sure my gears have some excessive wear because when I panic stop it kind of clunks or kicks or when I give it a quick hard accel you can hear it if you're in a tunnel or between buildings. I've checked my u-joint with a crow bar, there is no play so I'm assuming it's the gears. There is also a whine between 2000-2500 rpm so I'm saying it's about time for a gear swap. It's a 99 Trans Am with A4 GU5 option with 88k on it. Was wondering how hard would it be to take out the 3:23's and put 3:73's in it. I'd rather not pay some no name mechanic shop to do it because chances are they will miss it or something else up and blame it on me LoL So I'm gonna bite the bullet and try it myself. How easy or hard is it? Any tips? Thanks guys Sorry for all the questions, I'm in the learning process of this whole thing.

I wouldn't bother changing the gears. I doubt your rears gonna fail. If you wanna swap just for the performance gain then go ahead. If you've never done a gear swap, I wouldn't do it myself.

New gears most likely will whine just the same.
