    12 Bolt Install Question

I am to the point of my install that I need to figure out what to do with the brake brackets that mount both the hydraulic brake line and parking brake cable at each end of the axle. The Moser came with the welded relocation brackets, so unless I utilize the very top hole (which would negate the reason for having the relocation brackets) I need to come up with a way to attach the brake bracket to the axle.

My options are to either weld them, or drill some holes and bolt them to the axle. In either case, they will need to be trimmed down to clear the LCA bolt which I will probably run in the middle hole to start. Pics of what I am talking about --

I had this same problem Jeff. Many others did also. All I did was elongated the holes. It worked pretty good. Still required some convincing to install, but it worked. Just elongate the holes.

Ok -- I'll eye it up tomorrow. Looks like I just need to have the hydraulic line close to where it needs to be for everything to fit.

Is your problem the fact the holes don't line up? Usually its just that the hole will not reach due to the fact the relocation brackets are too large. Let me know, I can get some pictures if you need. Just gotta get cold LOL.

The holes on the brackets are already slotted and it appears that they will line up. The bracket would need to be mounted in the topmost hole to work with the brake lines. I will be using the lower two holes to mount my control arm -- starting off in the middle hole. This is what poses an interference problem as the holes are not spaced far enough apart to clear the bracket or a mounting bolt.

I test fit my new tubular control arms and I have lots of space to work with. That's why I thought drilling two (2) holes, one in the back and one on the outside would work. I would also remove the inner arm and radius the outer arm for clearance. The factory mounting position is actually about 1/2" higher than the top hole based on measurements off my 10 bolt and positioning it correctly would allow access to all three (3) holes in my relocation bracket.

The bracket would be modified as follows:

I am in the midst of modifying the brackets... Unfortunately, in order to maintain access to both of the upper mounting holes, I either need to carve quite a bit of it away or add on to it so there is sufficient material to bolt it through the middle hole. Still debating what to do. 0rion?

It took a bit to figure it out -- but I believe I have it. I wanted to make sure I can change my LCA mounting point at the track without having to hassle with the bracket. The mods to the bracket include a radius on the upper arm to clear the axle, the inner mount has been cut off, the lower lip on the outside was cut and the metal worked flat. This allowed for a second hole to be drilled to line up with the relocation bracket holes. I then worked the bend over and welded the v-shaped notch shut for a smooth look. I also radiused the front lower corner and drilled the back for a mounting bolt.

Here's a before and after -- and one of it installed on the axle:

I can moved the bolt and LCA from the top to the middle hole without any problem. To use the lower hole, I will simply need an extra bolt to insert in the top hole to hold the bracket. Tomorrow, the brackets will be painted and installed on the axle. Mission accomplished!

That looks really good Jeff! You should probably install it in the center hole, and then move to the bottom hole at the track. Youll be able to tell where you need to install the bolt after you get the suspension loaded. Looks good, and its a neat idea also.

Looks Great !!! After you have it on the ground, you want the front of the control arm aiming upwards, towards the crank shaft of the motor. ( instant center ) You will be impressed with the the traction gains !

With all the crap on our roads the test drive will be in late March at the very earliest. Fortunately, I am a patient person.

Thanks! I always enjoy everyone else's build threads, especially with pictures -- they have taught me alot about our car.
