The 10 bolt is a POS and if you want to go fast safely get rid of it. Put slicks on and you will be on borrowed time. Maybe you will get a 100 passes out of it but maybe 101 breaks halfway down the track and your car is wasted. Not worth the risk IMO.
Ya, I'm a little confused myself as to the reasoning, I've seen so many nicely done 4th gens forsale with more than enough HP and tons of money invested but still sportin' the stock rearend

I know where you're coming from. Even the bare housing are close to a grand $$$$
I've pieced them together before, starting with a 12 bolt bare housing from strange,,,even with c-clip axles ($300 a pair),,, a new Eaton carrier ($400+),,,, a new gear set with a setup kit ($200),,,, all your axle bearings and seals (+-$50) a yoke can be $50 or even more depending on what you go with,,,,a differential cover again $50 or more depending on what you go with,,,and your still over $2,000 smackers with standard type axles,,,and we still haven't done backing plates and all the brake hardware depending if you want new parts or not. Then of course there is labor if you can't assemble yourself.

It adds up in a hurry,,,not so much the parts but that damn bare housing is a huge chunk of it. If only the price of that would come down a bit.

I came accross a strange housing at a swap meet 2 weeks ago. Never used bare housing and he wanted $1,000 for it,,,not much of a deal at all when I can buy them from the supplier a little cheaper than that.
