    The 8.8 is nothing more than Fords version of the GM 12 bolt.

    It's a great rear, but never really understood that conversion for a 4th gen, simply because of the fab work involved. When you can simply buy the torque arm bracket and control arm brackets from Currie that are made to fit right onto any Ford 9" rear. Grab yourself a 9" out of the local wrecking yard, (still a dime a dozen). I've done that conversion a few times before 9 inchers were being made for 3rd and 4th gens. It's really a piece of cake, much easier than making an 8.8 work.

    What kind of weight difference and hp loss is experienced with the 8.8, as compared to the others?

    Nothing really. It's constructed almost identical to a 12 bolt, Slightly smaller ring gear. No measuable HP loss with the 8.8, no more so than using a 12 bolt.

    Weight difference is also nil.
