You have a 2.73. The gear you want to run will depend on what you intend to do with the car.

Check your RPO codes located on the inside of the drivers door, then go here and you can decode it. http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar...eels&year=2002
Im pretty sure 3.23 were also available on an auto

You have 2:73s or 3:23s were an option for Z28s.

    GU2 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO
    GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
    GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
    GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO

You want 3:73s as an upgrade.

GU5 option code also gives you an aluminum driveshaft.

I believe the aluminum driveshafts came only on M6s and 3.23 A4s; at least that's what I've noticed.

You'll see a big change if you go from 2.73s to 3.73s. Depending on the way you drive the car, your gas mileage may suffer though. I believe my brother went from something like 1600 RPMs at about 70 MPH with 2.73s to 2400 RPMs at 70 PMH with 3.73s. He didn't like them much, even with an SS4000. Strangely, he preferred my 3.23s and SS3800. He eventually swapped axles from a 3.42 car and actually liked it a lot better.

I think 3.73s for a DD is about as far as you want to go.
