v6 to ls1 swap
Hey guys!
TAG UR IT said i could get some of the best help here so here is my info.
I have a 1998 Chevy Cheyenne with a 4.3 v6. I am putting in a LS1 from Camaro. I found one fully complete turn key with a Auto transmission for $3,500. It has less then 60K miles. Its form a 98 z28. Im going to put the transmission in my truck too. After reading a few things on here I am getting the impression the 98 ls1 wasn't the greatest. My questions are:
1. Should i go for a 1999?
2. Is that a good price.
3. Am I doing something stupid and is it worth it?
The motor comes with the computer and wiring harness too. I have looked on jegs and a summit and a few other places for the LS1 block and it runs about $1,500 so I think this route is better.
Now this motor is from a salvage yard and it has a warranty and is inspected before shipped and sold. If you have any other questions about what im doing please ask.
Thanks guys for the help this forum is very use full

if it is going into a truck i would put the much more durable 4l80e in. and go 4.10 in the rear with a 12 bolt, wit hthis drivetrain and an ls1 motor you should have a reliably, efficient, and a fairly quick setup. good luck and make sure to post pics during and after instalation

I would go with and 01 or newer if I were you. The 4L80E is stout but I opted for the 02 F-Body 4L60E due to the weight difference. With a 3200 stall, 4.10 gears and 10 bolt rear end I haven't been able to teqar it up yet.
