These things ride extremely nice in rough terrain so you can scoot along at a pretty good clip. Unlike the 4x4's trucks and jeeps we've used in the past where you have to creep along or they beat you to death. The rail literally cuts our drive time in half, at only 900 lbs. it skips over the top of the rough stuff, and it's tough as nails. It's a blast for sure.

Holy crap only 900lbs, I had no idea that they were that light I always figured they were closer to 1500lbs. Great looking rail, it looks very solid and well put together.
There are some things you just can't test in a white lab coat.

I kinda think the overheating and head gasket kinda go hand and hand. so if you can avoid the overheating, you'll avoid the headgasket problems. But the guys who leave them bone stock and tow heavy loads are popping head gaskets at the same rate as LB7s need injectors.

Yep probably true. I was a bit surprised to find out the nature of the overheat issue though, and how easy that was to address.

Surprises me too. I didn't know it was mostly the turbo inlet. I hadn't heard that. Good to know!

Thanks, it's a ball to tool around in, like a go cart on steroids .
I imagine they get heavier depending on the design and what you want to add on. It's just a simple tube chassis with a fiberglass body, the VW engine is all aluminum, I pick them up and move them around the garage by hand . The heaviest piece is the transmission but still easy to pick up and move. Hell once in a creek driving on some large flat slick wet rock and the back slid off and one tire dropped into the flowing water and wet sand and got stuck. We got out, picked up the backend and set it back on the rock and took off Don't need no stinkin' winch
Here in AZ if it's under 1400 or 1500 lbs (can't remember which) it can be considered an OHV, so I scaled it. But they are only legal on 45mph and under streets. So I registered it like a car (that's basically what it is) so I can drive it anywhere with no limitations.

Boy I really steered this off topic but anyway....

We know a turbo compresses air and air gets hot when it's compressed. The small turbo inlet wasn't helping that issue. But the way it was explained to me was that the air intake was also sucking in hot underhood air compounding the problem and making that intercooler even hotter. And that intercooler is massive up front covering the entire front area of the truck, then and AC condensor, and finally the radiator.
That's how it was explained to me, I'm still a little new to this duramax stuff so I turned to Rob at ATP for a little help. Great guy.

Just traded the 2011 6.2 in for a 2013 5.3. Fuel was killing me. Because of $12k in rebates, and the equity in my truck, my payments went down like $9/month. It'll be worth it in gas I swear!!

I've noticed, they've REALLY fine tuned that 5.3 for good gas mileage. Its almost equal or better then the V6. I think its very close or better then the Ford EcoBoost V6, too.

In all but ideal conditions, the ecoboost is a fucking pig. You have to make a concerted effort to get any mileage out of those trucks. Most people seem to get 15-17mpg, some less some more.

Yikes, I'd say that flat sucks for an ecoboost considering my old 79 1 ton with a 502 gets 14 mpg, with a carb and no overdrive.

Pretty good looking. $20k seems to be a pretty common price for these things, they hold their value well for a 10 year old truck. 150k miles isn't much to worry about either with the Dmax/Allison combo, pretty durable setup. 8th digit in the vin is a 1 so it's the first generation LB7, which explains the injector change. Since it's been done you don't have to worry about it now.

Truck also has 5th wheel and a fuel tank in the bed, neither one does me any good but nice to have.

Your right FBJ, most of the trucks that I find like this one are around 20k give or take a thousand. If they are under 100k miles the price shoots up another 5 to 8k. I'm going to they and get him down a thousand when I go up and look at it.
