    Mileage on my 2008 Silverado

I gave up waiting for the half ton diesel or hybrid to replace my '01 Silverado and bought a 2008 Silverado LTZ 2WD with the 5.3 engine.

I was getting 13-14 mpg around town in the '01 and I've yet to get over 12 mpg in the '08. I drive a little aggresive but this doesn't seem right.

I've talked to a couple other guys with '07 or '08 Silverados and they're getting around 14-15 mpg.

I'd appreciate finding out what mileage other folks are getting, thanks!

It's got to be your driving style, try if you want to save gas your probably
gonna have to slow down. I get better gas mileage in my 06 Crew 4x4 with the 5.3 & 3.73 gears. I get around 15 city & anywhere between 18-22 on the highway depending on how fast I go. With my truck I get the best mileage when I keep the tach around 1700-1800 rpms.

If you are concerned about highway mileage I've heard the 07-08 will run on 4cyl pretty consistently if you stay under 62 mph. Also you can get a custom tune that can adjust how long it will stay in 4 cyl mode and when it activates.

the mpg's should get a little better when its broke in. One of my work trucks (08 colorado) went from 22mpg's to 25 mpg's combined city/highway

The city mpg does suffer alot, but I averaged 21+ on a 250 mile highway trip with my 07' saab 9-7x 5.3i. It is all GM with the 5.3 V8.

I drive my 07 Silverado 5.3 mostly around "town"...being out in the country and these roads it would equate to driving in "town"....anyway I started out exactly where you are.....but as it broke in the MPG went up....I have a Amsoil air filter/Pennzoil Platinum 10-30...Amsoil ATF and Royal Purple 75-90 in the diff.....I get 17.8 consistently now at 15K miles on her.....driving up to Dallas @ 70-75mph I get 22ish consistently.

Check where your getting your gas..We have checked some samples and are registering 12 to 15 % achohol...Max allowed for a none e85 engie is 10%.
Not knocking anyone, but I see more high readings from Walmart than any one else.

    Just a thought.

Also, there is some issues with the '08 O2 sensors and converters..

did you mean 12-15% ethonal? i have a 2008 impala lt with e85 flexfuel but the only places that offer e85 is in the midwest states from what i was told. but i heard even though its cheaper that it burns quicker.

right, 12-15 % ethonal...If your Impala is already E85 cerifitied, then you have
no worries...I doubt that E85 will get as good mileage gas regular gas because
achohol (ethonal) is not as effient as gasoline.
I know some friends that drag race and have to use nearly twice as much achohol as gas to make the car run good.
