    Look at a 2000 s10 as a dd

Its a 2.2 5 speed regular cab I have had a few s10's but the we're always a 4.3. Is their anything to look out for known issues bugs whatever.

Nothing that comes to mind on those 4cyl. They are underpowered, but very reliable.

Im getting killed at the pump driving the z71 in town right now.
Also could be a great ls swap later on in life.

I hear ya. The SS does best of 12mpg in the winter, but mostly it's in the 10's and 11's. Luckily I live 3 miles from work and don't put many miles on the truck a year.

Ouch!! You should be getting better economy than that. Especially on stock size tires. You should consistantly be in the 14-16 range with majority city driving.

Still... unless it's a decent size difference, you should be getting better.

Actually, if you swapped in a stock LS1 and 6 speed, it would probably still get 20-22mpg average in an S10, and 25+ on the highway.

I would think it could do even better with an LS1 6 speed in a little S10. Double overdrive and lightweight, small in size? I've had the 4.3 versions that would get 20-22 mpg highway.

I have a 6.0/4L60E swap in a 72 blazer with 33" tires, shaped like a brick and weighs 4600 lbs. I'm getting 22 mpg highway, and 17 city. Good enough for me, drive it everyday.

I get 13 around town if I drive nice; crew cab 6.2 Silverado 4x4 leveled on 33s, tuned with an Airaid tube and filter element.

Ouch, I wonder how much that thing weighs. It's awfully thirsty. Those newer trucks are supposed to have VVT and cylinder deactivation. Things that I thought were supposed to help fuel mileage??

I've owned two Sonoma's, one a 2.2 and the other 4.3,each very reliable. I got stranded 3 times in the Nissen and bought my Sonoma and never looked back. Very reliable. The 4.3 ocassionally needs the injectors cleaned from stalling a bit.
