    GMC vs Chevy

    Please give me your thoughts. Is it just cosmetic? One better or worse? the same? I've heard a lot over the years but have never seen any facts to back either side.

    I would like to know. Between the gmc sierra and the chevy 1500 they were exactly the same for 01 year except the 99 gmc had one less door in the back.

    Didn't all the big automakers get lame with the so-called different brands? Ford/Mercury/Lincoln, Dodge/Chrysler, and Chevy/Pontiac/GMC all got into the annoying habit of putting out duplicate vehicles from each of their brands...

    I never understood why they did that. I guess they thought they'd lose customers if they let certain auto models die out. But giving exact copies and calling them different things is just frickin stupid.

    They are the same. They might have different option packages to make them a little different, seems like GMC tries to be a bit more upscale compared to the Chevy. At least, that's how I take it. Under the skin, tho, they are the same thing, same powertrains, differetials, etc. Possibly some spring shock tuning minor differences.

    BTW,
    GMC = Good Muthaf'n Chevy
    Chevrolet = Cheap Heap, Every Valve Rattles, Oil Leaks Every Time.

    J/K!!!!

    As far as style like the new chevys over the GMCs as far as actual differences, i think the only minor differences are in the suspension. Same frame, same drive train, same company.

    They used to refer to GMC as Chevy's with lock washers... but by the 1974 models it was only badges. It has only been the last couple of bodies where there was even a significant difference in the front end styling. I know that my 1980 model GMC had a different grill then the Chevy... it had GMC molded into it Oops, I forgot it had GMC stamped in the tail gate.

    Some of the earlier models had a different hood and fenders, and GMC had a V-6 engine where the Chevy had an in-line 6. That V-6 is a little weird, I really haven't seen one in a while but I think it was the exhaust routing that I thought was strange.

    The way it was described to me about 10 years ago is GMC uses a treated steel and Chevrolet does not. The interiors are allegedly more "plush" and "better quality" than Chevrolet's. This has started many wars in the past. I personally think they're all one in the same. I buy Chevy's because I think they're styling has been more to my liking throughout the years than GMC's.

    I think it is all personal preference. People can drum up all the myths they want as to why GMC is a better truck than Chevrolet. I'm no longer going to fight those fights. I like Chevy more than GMC, others may have different opinions.

    ^^^It's a 10 year old car. Supposed to be perfect still?

    Did you get this car for it's stellar build quality reputation, or it's stellar perfomamce under the hood, to spank Mustangs etc.

    GMC has more bells and whistles and on the newer ones they do ride a little nicer...think its just suspension they use is different.

    The only way to get a drivetrain difference in a GMC is to get the Denali package with the 6.2 beast. However, as of the 2010 model year, the same engine and drivetrain was available in the Silverado. The suspension is the same if I'm not mistaken.
