    1989 camaro iroc

    05 silverado coolant leak

    have a 05 silverado with 5.3 can smell coolant in engine bay but can't see anything leaking. any sugestions?

    The water pump gaskets are a known weak spot, but may only leak a small amount and might go unnoticed. Same thing with the water pump itself, take a look at the weep hole.

    Agree, coolant almost always leaves a trail usually a white color like trail after it dries.

    Check around your rad cap and heater core lines also.

    How many miles do you have on the truck. More than likely the water pump gasket. I had to replace my gaskets at 50,000. 04 5.3 Sierra.

    has around 65,000 noticed white color at rear of water pump on passanger side. should i pressure system with a coolant pressure tester? if so do it hot or cold?

    These are notorious for leaking for a short time only when they cool down. Water pump gasket is the fix, replace pump if you are overzelous on preventive maintainence, but the gasket is the culprit.
