    Holy MPG Batman!!!

Last week I took a road trip in my wife's Cobalt. It's a 5spd with the 2.2L and I couldn't believe myself when I calculated the gas mileage. The first tank was 39.8 mpg and the second was 38.6, and the second tank included some stop and go 'cause of traffic! So hybrids, you can kiss my butt. My hat's off to Chevy on this one!

Tell your mom to lay off the lead foot haha... Are you going by the computer reading, or calculating miles traveled to gallons put in the tank.

You may also want to look at whether something is mechanically wrong. and is it a V6?

For normal driving I agree, but on a 900 mile road trip you can't beat it.

I was calculating manually, but the computer was saying the same thing.

ATCharming, we have the 2.2 4cyl with the manual trans. What does you mom have?

P.S. I was running anywhere from 60 to 75 MPH depending on the speed limit.

Well, I'd double check, but the computer seems pretty accuratein our car though. I'd try some routine maint. Airfilter, Chevron techron cleaner (the expensive stuff), fuel filter, oil change, and if that doesn't help IDK. If it's under warranty still have GM check her out cause I was getting that kinda mileage out of my ls1. I don't think we've ever seen under 30 mpg. An auto should only be maybe 2 mpg less than a 5spd if I had to guess. Good luck I hope you can figure out what's going on.

Oh yeah, the average gas mileage the 'puter gives is a building average since the last time it was reset. So if you haven't reset it since the car was new it's not a good indicator.

it should still be under warranty... so we can just go to the dealer and just be like "yo, my mpg sucks. tell me why"
    basically...
    ?

Some times I think we intentionally pick the WORST gas mileage vehicle for our road trips... Though admittedly it has made us stop at some really unusual towns....

At any rate if you are getting only 22mpg out of a cobolt, something is seriously wrong... I can get nearly that out of my burb(if I baby it).

I got a Suzuki Swift for daily driver, I pull 37mpg driving not too aggresively, but 35mpg when I floor it from lights and get on it often. good little $3k investment, I put in new 15'' black wheels and 15x245 Falken 512 tires, tint all around, 2900lbs, drives like a go cart. 80hp
