impact wrench
I'm thinking about buying one, for when I change my oil, take off the wheels, change brake rotors, do exhaust work, etc etc. Anybody have any good suggestions? I don't want go buy an air tank so itd have to be electric.. Strong, maybe adjustable, and affordable would be great. Thanks!

Just go get a cheap one at harbor freight then. It'll work for what you want to do with it. Three jobs you wont be using an impact for though are three that you listed: oil changes, anything to do with your brakes, or exhaust work (unless you use one to purposely break rusted bolts out).

Grizzly is another option. I have their air impact and it has worked great for the past 5 years.

if you're talking cordless then this is on my list of shit to buy......I want a good cordless impact. They're bad ass for working on stuff around the house in general. Neighbor has a milwaukee but it's about a $400 impact. I agree with 5.0 though that the jobs you listed an impact wouldn't be the first tool I'd reached for. I have an air compressor and all the air tools to go with it but I still use hand tools for 99% of the stuff I do. Air tools are just so cumbersome usually and they break shit. Nothing beats a good set of hand tools. Dewalt makes an 18v 3/8" cordless impact for a little over $200. That or craftsman would probably be what I'll end up with.

I have an Ingersoll Rand IQV20 impact it is a $450 impact though but it will do anything you could possibly need it to do. It has enough power to get any bolt off even ones that are torqued down at hundreds of foot pounds and have loctite on them as well, this will make short work of the crank pulley bolt as well. My thought is get one impact that will do everything you would possibly need. It's battery lasts a really long time as well. Do not torque anything anything down with this though.
Some information on it can be found here: http://www.ingersollrandproducts.com/am-en/products/tools/Iqv-cordless-tools/iqv20/w7150-1-2-20v-high-torque-impactoolLast edited by 98TransAmWs-6; 04-25-2014 at 05:45 AM.

I got a higher end Ryobi about 2 years ago that'll take lug nuts off which is just about all I use it for...I also used it to put bolts into some studs in the house when I mounted a TV last year.

I bought a cordless 18V Dewalt Impact Model DC820KA 3 years ago and I love it.
2 batteries charger and case,it takes off 100lb ft lugs no problem and will do all 4 tires on one battery.
This thing can undo my 5th Gen lugs at 140ft lbs most of the time.
I got it on sale at Home Depot for $65.002010 Camaro SIM 2SS/RS A6

well the exhaust bolts are all rusted, It was a bitch trying to take my cats off (something I couldn't do, so I just got a 02 delete).
My oil reservoir bolt is less than cooperative; that thing requires 100% of my might + more effort + 30 minutes of that just to get the damn thing loose everytime. Its horrible.
and the wheels could be much easier to take out with something automatic doing it compared to my hands
So I thought an impact wrench would be helpful with those type of tasks. But I don't want an air powered one; that sounds expensive. Impact wrenches can be electric right? or are they called something different..

My vote would go to an 18 volt Milwaukee. Totally kick ass! ~500 bucks

I paid ~500 for mine quite a few years ago, but here's a heckuva deal @ $200!!!
Edit: Oops, that one is only 1/4" drive, but I'm sure they have any size you'd want.

lolz @ almost everyone ignoring the budget/affordable part
And what is an "oil reservoir" bolt? Do you mean the drain plug? If it's that tight, you're seriously overtightening it. By A LOT. The torque spec on a drain plug isn't critical, but you're still only going to be around the 20-30 ft lb range on most vehicles. Something that's easily doable with a 6 inch ratchet with minimal effort.

just do your research...I looked for a couple of weeks before I bought one. I didnt spend over $120 but I surfed the internet to find what would do exactly what I needed...I dont plan on taking lug nuts off an 18 wheeler anytime soon lol just get what does the job you want...honestly, you should not have to spend over $150 to do what you are trying to do.

5.0 Yes i mean the drain plug. lol and that's definitely not it, I hardly tighten the thing at all during every oil change. I do it at about half of what I could do. Then 5k miles later and i'm using all my strength for 30 minutes to get the thing out.
Patrick good idea. I was checking amazon for some good ones around 100+ bucks, but I just wanted some advice first.
