    "Stillborn". We're building a 64 Impala with a LSX V10!!!

No, you didn't read that wrong, and I'm not retarded. We have in our shop, the ONLY LSX V10 in existence outside of GM possession. It was part of a quarter million dollar scrap purchase from GM. Two of these were made, one aluminum block, and one iron. The aluminum block was destroyed in testing at GM and was tossed as scrap. This iron based beast was also literally tossed into the scrap pile as well. When we got it, the oil pan was cracked, as was the intake. It is based off the LS3 and L92 heads.

It is currently torn down and the block is at the machine shop. We are mating it to a 4L80 and putting it in the Impala. The build is scheduled to be finished in time for KC World of Wheels. My buddy owns the shop, Vcfabrications, partnered with KC Maxx Performance, here in the KC metro. I was lucky enough to have been asked to assist him with the project. This will be our third build together. The first was my 99 Camaro that I've posted a little about. The second was his 01 TA 383 LSX we named the Dirty Bird. And after the Impala, we will be building my new to me, 01 WS6.

We will be fabbing valve covers, intake and headers in shop. Tick Performance is building us a cam. It will likely end up with a 102mm TB. We have also been toying with the idea of a twin turbo setup.

Again, I'm not bullshitting guys, a genuine LSX 7.5 liter V10.

    More to come...

If you happen to find another in a dumpster somewhere... I would be more than happy to find a project to install it in!

That is so far beyond cool that I don't know what to think.

Got it into the shop and tucked into its corner. Pulled out all.interior except for the dash, and will be sealing all weak seams in the floor pan as well as applying a coat of undercoating before installing the new carpet and reinstalling the interior components.

Bolted the v10 pan to a LS1 block to check for cross member clearance. Only the back 5 pan bolt holes lined up, which kind of surprised us. The pan would not clear the steering components of the sway bar, so they were removed and may be replaced with a different setup. The frame had already been notched to clear a Moroso LSX pan, but, it still won't clear the v10 pan. Options are- put engine mounts on pedestals, but I don't like the idea of the engine being at that angle. Building a pan from scratch. Or cutting the cross member again, and gusseting the piss out of it to ensure rigidity. The idea was tossed around to bastardize the OEM pan, but we figure it has more value in the original design rather than if modified. We are waiting to get the transmission bolted up before any real decision is made... As those older Chevy trans tunnels are tight... Not alot of room to fudge. (Replacing the Powerglide in my 64 malibu sucked as I remember it).

    I'll update more tomorrow

Is the chassis going to be around stock ride height or lowered?

Trans tunnel would be redone IMHO. You're going to want to put a bigger transmission then what cam back then. You may need to engineer a tubular K member for that block.

Looking at that oil pan, I have to say damn that is a big block.

Jeff, we are going to bag it.

The front end may go tubular eventually

Like I said previously, the cross member had been altered to allow a Moroso LS1 pan to clear.

I had to cut it to allow for the LS10 pan today. It fits nicely now, but I'm going to open it up just a bit more to ensure there's no contact under extreme flexing of the mounts.

I also had to alter the clamp weld in the trans tunnel. A little Precision work with the 2# hammer yielded the clearance I wanted.

Tomorrow we are applying Por 15 to the floor and trunk pans, as well as the firewall. We are going to fit it with the steering rack from a gen 4 Camaro, so I'll get started with that tomorrow as well.

Oh yeah, we were featured on LSXTV today as well.Prototype LS V10 Engine Revived

Wouldn't you want solid motor mounts for something of this power? Or is that something further down the line after the show.

    So many questions.....

Tuning - have you guys thought of who you going to use?

Read the article and again...damn.... How scary would a turbo setup on this would be.....

Tuning will be done inhouse. Ryan of KCMaxx performance is the laptop genius.

We have spoken with engineers that created this monster, decided where they dropped the ball and made mistakes, and have made changes to several parts to make up for this.

wasn't that block supposed to have been destroyed or a hole punched in the block before it went to scrap

The aluminum block was damaged in testing. Our iron block is fine.

SEMA isnt even on our radar right now(that I know of).

Got the pans treated today. Por15 is some amazing stuff. There's a whole lot of real estate there...used less than a quart. Stuff gets in your head pretty quick too!

Going to be 47° Sunday. Hopefully we can get it pulled outside and degreased to I can treat the firewall and frame.

I use a lot of POR-15 on restorations and it is amazing. Just don't get it on your skin as it is about like having a tat when you try to remove it.

I know Por15 has been around for ages, ever thought of using Lizard Skin? Heard that stuff is awesome for thermal and sound as well as a rust preventive.

POR-15 works a lot better for rust prevention from what I understand, and it's like 1/3 the cost.
