Should I trade my 98 TA for a 92 camaro RS?

    Ok guys,

I have a 98 trans am with over 220,000 miles. It does have some issues but its mostly a lot of little problems but they add up when you start fixing them (listed below). I have a guy that I work with that wants to trade me his 92 camaro (it has a lot of mods listed below) for my stock trans am. I know that the 92 camaro will not pass emissions because of there is no cats and it dumps before the axel. He stated that this car would become a classic in 2012 (we live in texas) and that it will not need an emissions test anymore is that correct? I love my LS1 but it seems like something is always going wrong with it and I kind of want something a little different. I am just looking for some input from some other people so tell me what you think.

Here is some stuff that I know needs to be repaired on my 98 Trans Am.

    - front driver side headlight paint is chipping off
    - rear bumper cover is damaged (was rear-ended about 5 years ago and never got it fixed)
    - dent in the driver side rear quarter panel
    - driver side taillight is cracked
    - driver side mirror is a little loose
    - driver seat is worn at the bolster (typical on camaros)
    - crack in the dash above the insturment cluster
    - missing an alignment screw on on of the fog lights
    - missing 1 knob on the air controls
    - center A/C vent is broken
    - small cut in the pasenger seat
    - cigerette burn in the driver side rear seat
    - missing the passenger sun visor (driver side viser is damaged but still there)
    - head liner has some spots on it form a soda left in the car in the summer
    - rear back rest is worn at the top in the middle
    - missing the fuse box cover (under the hood)
    - rear hatch doesnt stay opened by itself
    - might need a new battery (didnt want to start for me yesterday)

Your question on the e-check is correct for most states.

Once a car reaches 25 years old it is exempt from any testing. Thats the way Ohio does it. Some states are similar,,,not familiar with Texas though. Thats something you would have to dig and find out.

I agree with Tony, sounds like a good 3rd gen. I loved my 88 Iroc L98,,,great little car I wish I still had.

Sounds like a good move. Your T/A is basically at "bucket" status right now with all those problems and if he's willing to take them off of your hands then i'd say go for it!

The better question is why does he want to trade you, if his car is so nice and yours has a laundry list of small problems. Talk to him see if he will let you do a day trade, just to see if you really like it. Probably won't go for it but worth a shot.
