Nice 'cuda. What's the CFM on those carburetors, 250 each? And are the outboard carbs mechanical or vacuum operated?

Ah gotcha. That was a little misleading at first.

So, if I understand this right, the two outboards work as a team first, then the middle comes on if there is enough load/RPM? And 1050 CFM, that's a lot for a 340 engine, unless it really screams.

That's opposite the GTO tripower setup, those engines run on the middle carb primarily, then the 2 outboards come on. The early setups were vacuum then Pontiac made them all mechanical, at least for the 4 speed cars.

negative the car always runs on the center carb, when you mash it the outboards step in,as per the 1050 cfm- is and always has been the way holley built them.if i can figure out the photo bucket thing i will post pix.

They actually worked fairly well with a bit of tuning. A customer of mine who became a close friend later on had a real deal T/A Challenger with the 340 6 pack, 4 speed and 355 gears out back. A nice low mile number matching car.

We switched it to 3.91's for a track day,,and he ran 14.30's to 14.40's with it on stock rubber. Not bad but it had more in it.

I tuned the car with a wideband, to get a more optimum WOT AFR and modified the idle circuit a bit. Both were on the rich side.
The car became very crisp and started clicking off 14.0's with a high 13.90 pass once in a while. It also picked up mph running right at 100-101 mph at the time. Not bad for what was otherwise a bone stocker.
Respectable little cars for what they are.

Very nice toys! Now get that haze buffed out of those head lights and some air in that left front tire before Preston has a heart attack..
