I had a 307 in a Nova , it is trickey but can be done . Try a stall converter first , than gears . Cam is the hardest thing to pick . I would call a cam company and try to match all three parts for the best performance . This combo has to engineered and you will have a quick car .

I used to think the 307 was the worst small block, then they built the 305. If you have a boat and it needs an anchor... At least the 307 has a 327 crank but it's probably a cast one. It's a great car and deserves a decent engine.

the 307 is more square than the 305. the 305 has a 350 crank in it. which combined with the small bore makes it better for low end torque than anything. the 307 is a good all around ECONOMICAL engine. its by no means a performance engine.

    305 or 307

Port and polish the 305 heads w/new valve springs, install headers and around .430 / 220degree duration hyd.cam and install on your 307 then sell the trans, you will make good power cheaply, most bang for the buck. Then you will have a spare 305 block incase SH*T happens!
