Will keep the stock 305 for now as it only has 53,000 miles. I tend to keep our older cars what they were, or at least close, in lieu of resto-modding them.

Thanks for that Jeff. I'm getting tired of seeing an LS engine in everything I see. Although I did the swap in my blazer (because the trans went out so I did it all) But I'd rather see my classics remain classics.

    Time for a 327 or 350, maybe a 400 SBC then..

Loves my old school sbc's even though Chevy messed them up for a decade or so..lol

Just not a huge fan of the 305..lol

    Welcome to the site!

We garage the car at our other house down by Beaver Springs. I will be there this weekend and will try to remember to snap a pic of the decal. My guess is that Mike's Montes would stock the correct vinyl dye for our cars... he should be at the GM show this weekend if you are anywhere around Carlisle.

I'm glad this thread got brought back to life. It was a good read. I remember my '86 Cutlass Supreme two door with its anemic 307 code "Y" ( whopping 140 hp) engine. 2.14 (yes, 2.14) axle and a TH350 tranny that someone put in place of the TH200C.

The thing would break tire going into second, but fell off worse than the 305's did ( peak power at 3200). I think my best 1/4 was 18.5? Just stabbed the gas pedal at the green, had no clue as to what I was doing.

I went gonzo on making the car handle better after that. 235/60/14's, the biggest sway bars I could by and poly bushings everywhere. The thing handled pretty good, which was helpful because it was harder to build up speed
Its been three years since an update on the Monte'. Time for a sitrep! Did you break down and buy a good intake manifold for it?

Only recent work on the Monte was rehabbing the AC system: R-12 to R-134a Conversion

The car is very clean and unmolested - none of the prior owners hacked 6x9's into the back deck, the stereo is the stock AM/FM cassette, no add on gauges or bling, no underhood modifications... I will keep this car is in stock form and only repair or replace what is needed. Eventually, I will start going through and refurbishing stuff like the suspension bushings and such at which time things will get sandblasted and coated in POR-15. The car will also need paint at some point and a new set of stripes. It'll be a driving restoration.

The decals on the end of the driver door only had tire and weight info. There is one decal missing from between those two, and I have no idea what that was.

No idea - I just double checked the VIN to see if the deck lid had been swapped.

The VIN is all good - I suppose it is possible that a prior owner swapped out the entire interior, but I cannot imagine why as the rest of the car is in such good shape. Hard to tell...
