Whats up with the use of 5.3 liter heads?

    I would go LS6 head over the 5.3's.

    not enough bingo. while the 5.3L head does have smaller combustion chambers, it also has a smaller intake valve (1.88 vs 2.00). what you gain in compression, you lose in airflow.

    now, the LS6 (Z06) heads have the same valve sizes as LS1, you'll get 3cc smaller chambers and slightly larger runners and chamber design is different.

    the 6.0L heads will have same valve size, but larger runners and 11cc larger chamber. the larger chamber results in lower compression.

    what you have been reading about is where porting shops take the heads and port them to fit larger valves and make larger runners in the 5.3L heads. this is what i have on my 408. a set of 4.8L heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, 62cc chambers and larger runners.

    if you are refering to stock configuration, yes.

    ported heads are a different ball game.

    I run tsp stage 2.5 5.3 heads,tr224/112cam and ported fast in an A4.Im happy with the combo.Thinking of going slightly bigger with the cam,or may go custom

    my C/R is about 11.1:1 with 6.0 heads, 2.02"ext/1.57" int w/59cc chambers (not milled down, rather welded up), running on pump gas...

    I'm also running 5.3 heads with bigger valves on my 383. Semms to work pretty well, but I may upgrade in the future...
